Overview

At the Joffrey Academy of Dance, nurturing a love of dance at a young age sparks a true passion for the art form. The Children’s Division builds a strong dance foundation by focusing on correct posture, placement, discipline, coordination, strength, flexibility and musicality.

Placement

The Joffrey Academy Faculty evaluates and places student in the appropriate level based on age and ability. Students are continually evaluated throughout the year and placement is at the discretion of the Joffrey Academy Faculty.

Attire

Toddler & Me
Girls Required: Solid pink leotard, pink footed tights and pink ballet slippers. NO skirts.
Parent: Comfortable clothes that allow movement.

Creative Movement – Pre Ballet
Girls Required: Solid pink leotard, pink footed tights and pink ballet slippers. Recommended: Mirella camisole leotard style M207C and Canvas split sole ballet slippers. *Please note that skirts are not allowed in any ballet class in the Children's Division.
Boys Required: White fitted t-shirt, black shorts, white socks and white ballet slippers.

Little Movers: Boys’ Dance
Boys Required: White fitted t-shirt, black shorts, white socks and white ballet slippers.

Ballet I
Girls Required: Pink camisole leotard, ¾” hip alignment belt or ¾” elastic, pink footed tights and pink ballet slippers.
Recommended: Mirella leotard style M207C, Canvas split sole ballet slippers.
Boys Required: White fitted t-shirt, black shorts, white socks and white ballet slippers.

Ballet II
Girls Required: Light Blue camisole leotard, ¾” hip alignment belt or ¾” elastic, pink footed tights and pink ballet slippers.
Recommended: Mirella leotard style M207C, Canvas split sole ballet slippers.
Boys Required: White fitted t-shirt, black shorts, white socks and white ballet slippers.

Children’s Jazz I & II
Girls Required: Solid colored camisole leotard and black jazz shoes. Optional fitted black dance shorts or jazz pants.
Boys Required: Solid color fitted t-shirt, black shorts/jazz pants, and black jazz shoes.

Classes

Toddler & Me

This movement based class encourages early socialization and creativity, develops physical strength, coordination and spatial awareness, and strengthens familial bonds. Adult participant may be a parent, guardian, grandparent, nanny or sitter and should wear clothing that allows comfortable movement.
Students must be age 2 by 8/31/15.


Creative Movement I

Students learn to love dance while developing coordination, imagination, memory, musicality and motor skills. Students must be age 3 by 8/31/15.

Creative Movement II

Students learn to love dance while developing coordination, imagination, memory, musicality and motor skills.
Students must be age 4 by 8/31/15.

 

Little Movers: Boys’ Dance

This fun, movement based class, specifically for boys, focuses on the athleticism of dance. It will develop their large motor skills, technique, flexibility, and strength. This class is great for coordination, body awareness and is helpful for any future sport or dance activities. Recommended for boys ages 4-6.  

 

Pre-Ballet I

Students are introduced to ballet vocabulary and class etiquette, focusing on the development of coordination, strength, flexibility and musicality.
Students must be age 5 by 8/31/15.


Pre-Ballet II

Students are introduced to ballet vocabulary and class etiquette, focusing on the development of coordination, strength, flexibility and musicality.
Students must be age 6 by 8/31/15.

 

Ballet I

This level introduces a structured ballet class implementing the study of classical ballet vocabulary. Instruction involves strong concentration on correct body alignment, along with development of attention span, discipline, and musicality.
Children's Jazz I is recommended for students in Ballet I.
Students must be age 7 by 8/31/15.


Ballet II A & B

Serious study of ballet begins at this level, with two ballet classes per week. Students build upon their training in fundamental concepts of classical ballet technique, vocabulary and studio etiquette. This class focuses on the development of body positions and alignment, jumping, introduction of turning and musicality. 
This level is by placement only, all classes are required.


Children's Jazz I is recommended for students ages 7-10+
Youth Jazz II is recommended for students ages 10-13+

 

Children's Hip Hop -NEW!

(Summer Session only) 
A high energy class with fun combinations to upbeat rhythms that will build strength and endurance. 


Children's Jazz I

Approx. Age: 7-10+

This exciting class is a perfect addition to a Ballet I or Ballet II B student's training. Students learn basic jazz steps, rhythm and fun choreography.
