Dancing sugar plum fairies and some good ol’ holiday spirit enchanted young and old at the Joffrey Ballet’s 14th annual Nutcracker Family Dinner, held earlier this month at the Palmer House Hilton, 17 E. Monroe.
Partygoers of all ages enjoyed a full-length performance of the lauded ballet’s yearly production of the famed holiday classic as well as kid-friendly activities and dinner, all hosted by the Joffrey Women’s Board.
Co-chairs Cindy Burns and Sonya Jackson welcomed more than 480 guests to the soiree, including fellow Women’s Board member Amelia Silva and president Melissa Babcock. Chicago’s former “first daughter,” Nora Daley Conroy, also attended with son Jack in tow and was seen talking with Joffrey executive director Christopher Clinton Conway and artistic director Ashley C. Wheater.
Kids got their faces painted and snatched holiday-themed sweets from the “creation stations,” while parents sipped wine and chatted with friends. A family-style dinner followed, as plates of turkey, stuffing and roasted yams made their way around the tables.
Tickets began at $200 for adults and $150 for children, and in total, the family-friendly fete raised more than $150,000 for the Joffrey Ballet.
