The Joffrey Ballet’s daring “Contemporary Choreographers” program, which runs Feb. 12-23 at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress, is all about the new face of classical ballet. It features “Episode 31,” a theatrical stunner of a piece by Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman; “Crossing Ashland,” by Chicago choreographer Brock Clawson and “Continuum,” by Christopher Wheeldon, an internationally acclaimed master. For all that is new about this program, however, in a way it simply reinforces the Joffrey’s long history of breaking out of the traditional ballet mode in its experimental pieces created by Robert Joffrey, Gerald Arpino, Twyla Tharp and others.
In this video, Joffrey artistic director Ashley Wheater is joined by dancer Amber Neumann, who has a flair for “the moderns,” and Clawson.
