In a sold-out show, The Joffrey Ballet took to the stage at Three
Stages performing arts center at Folsom Lake College over the weekend.
Connie and Michael Lum have lived in Folsom for nine years and think the new center is an asset to the region.
“We are completely enjoying ourselves,” Michael said at the ballet.
“We enjoy cultures and this venue lends itself to people here locally.
When you say The Joffrey Ballet is in Folsom – that’s amazing.”
The Joffrey Ballet is known as “America’s Company of Firsts,”
including being the first dance company to perform at the White House at
Jacqueline Kennedy’s invitation, the first to appear on TV, the first
American company to visit Russia, the first classical dance company to
go multi-media and the first to have a major motion picture based on it
in Robert Altman’s “The Company.”
Local ballet dancer Cierra Diaz, 18, lives in Folsom and dances at an
advanced level with Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet in El Dorado Hills.
“I thought this was amazing,” Diaz said. “Usually shows like this
don’t come to Folsom, so to have a performance by the Joffrey Ballet
here is amazing.”
As a performer himself, he was impressed with the stage and said the facility is beautiful.
Vaughn Johnson of Cameron Park brought her daughter Erin Gilles of San Jose to the ballet.
Johnson has danced for 40 years and said she wanted to enjoy the ballet with her daughter.
“I love Joffrey … I come out whenever I can to see them,” Johnson
said. “The new facility is wonderful. It’s nice to have such a well
renowned touring ballet come here – and to have us be able to see them
The touring ballet company offered a variety of performances at the
Folsom center. After the last dance, the Three Stages audience gave a
