The torch singer Shelley MacArthur, in Marchesa, performed on behalf of the Joffrey Ballet at an invitation only Valentine's Day Concert in Chicago. The chef Charlie Trotter prepared the food--which was suitably heavy on supposed aphrodisiacs like oysters and caviar--for the festivities at the Murphy Auditorium. Twenty varieties of vodkas were served to augment the mood.
MacArthur (who is married to the CEA and majority owner of Zrii LLC, a health and beauty company William Farley, and serves on the ballet's women's board) called the program What is this Thing called Love. She included arias and Cole Porter love songs on the playlist in equal measure, moving gracefully from Puccini's Nessum Dorma to "What Is This Thing Called Love," which included a few intimate passages she directed to her husband Bill to the delight of friends and intimates.
