CHICAGO (February 11, 2019) – Joffrey President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Cameron is pleased to announce that Julia Doherty, formerly Director of Major Gifts at The Joffrey Ballet, has been promoted to Chief Development Officer. Doherty’s new role is effective immediately.

“Julia is a proven leader, with an exceptional track record of success,” said Cameron. “We have many opportunities ahead of us, including our upcoming move to the Lyric Opera House in the fall of 2020 and broadening our reach in the Chicago community and beyond. Julia’s diplomatic leadership and her deep commitment to developing authentic relationships will ensure continued growth in all areas of the Joffrey mission—artistic excellence, dance education and community connections.”

Doherty has been integral to the Joffrey’s fundraising success over the last decade. Highlights include: exceeding fundraising goals by $1.2 million for the creation and production of Christopher Wheeldon’s new Nutcracker in 2016; stewarding the Joffrey’s first named position with a $5 million gift from the Paul Galvin Memorial Foundation Trust; a $750,000 challenge grant from the Lakonishok family for the addition of three new dancers to the Company roster and two additional paid work weeks to the seasonal contracts of every Joffrey artist; and securing $1.1 million in funding for the world premiere production of Yuri Possokhov’s Anna Karenina, debuting February 13, 2019 at the Auditorium Theatre.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for my colleagues and look forward to collaborating with them each day,” added Doherty. “In this new chapter I will continue doing everything I can to make the Joffrey stronger in every respect.”

Doherty joined the Joffrey in 2008 as Events Coordinator and was later promoted to Director of Special Events, Director of Development, and most recently, Director of Major Gifts. She is a Chicagoland native, and a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep and DePaul University.
