Christina Salerno



Raised in Westmont, IL, Ms. Salerno received her formative ballet training and performing experience with Salt Creek Ballet as a pupil of Founding Director Patricia Sigurdson and completed her ballet training as a scholarship student at San Francisco Ballet School.


In 1993, Ms. Salerno took a position with Boston Ballet II, joining the full company the following year. She was promoted to Soloist during her eight-year tenure with the company, before moving to Switzerland to join Zurich Ballet as a Soloist.  In 2002, Ms. Salerno was invited by Monica Mason to join The Royal Ballet, where she spent five years as a Soloist.  Her repertoire includes principal and soloist roles in the Nutcracker, La Bayadere, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Les Patineurs (Ashton), Danses Concertantes (MacMillan), Cinderella (Ashton),  Symphonic Variations (Ashton), Sleeping BeautyGrosse Fuge (Van Manen), Apollo (Balanchine), Theme and Variations (Balanchine), Symphony in C (Balanchine), Agon (Balanchine), Four Temperaments (Balanchine), The Tales of Beatrix Potter (Ashton), Giselle, Company B (Taylor), Waterbaby Bagatelles (Tharp), Four Last Songs (Van Danzig), Songs Without Words (Duato), and Breakers (Cunningham). Ms. Salerno danced in the world premieres of Christopher Wheeldon’s Corybantic Ecstasies and The Firebird and she assumed the leading role of Winter in Mr. Wheeldon’s Four Seasons.  Ms. Salerno was an original cast member of Lyla York’s Ode to Joy and was featured in the world premiere of Wayne MacGregor’s Qualia.


Ms. Salerno has taught ballet classes for young students through adults at the Boston Ballet School, Ballet Arts (Kalamazoo, MI), and Fresh Pond Ballet (Cambridge, MA).  While in England, Ms. Salerno also taught at the Sadler’s Wells Summer School in London with other professional dancers of The Royal Ballet.

Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, is the only training program owned, operated or endorsed by The Joffrey Ballet. The Joffrey Ballet is not affiliated with any other dance training or school program, including the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. The Joffrey Academy, located in the Exelon Education Center at Joffrey Tower in Chicago, Illinois is the only school that follows the organizational mission, training syllabi, and artistic vision of The Joffrey Ballet.
