Daielma Decker was born in Sao Paulo Brazil and received her early training from esteemed teachers, Ruth Rosenbaum and Flavia Barros. She graduated from The Royal Academy of Dance of London and studied various methods around the world including the Vaganova method from Yurgen Schneider and Janina Cunova. Ms. Decker has worked with Stagium, Cisne Negro and Opera Paulista in Brazil and performed with the Portland Ballet as principal dancer. Her roles have included the Snow Queen, her signature piece, and performed in productions of La Bayadere, Les Syphides, Paquita, Pas de Quatre as well as several contemporary works by international choreographers. While with Portland Ballet she was their Resident Choreographer and Director of their pre-professional program. As an independent choreographer, she has worked on productions such as Jesus Christ Super Star, Tommy, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and with the Opera Repertory Theater in productions of Carmen, Faust and Lucia de Lammermoor. Her 30 years teaching experience include Methodologies in RAD, Vaganova and Cechetti.

 

Ms. Decker has also studied Mime and Theater Arts from The Celebration Mime Theater, including improvisation, tumbling and juggling. Combining these talents, she performed internationally with Fred Garbo Company for 20+ years covering six continents and all across the United States and Canada, in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Aspen Dance Festival, New Victory Theater on Broadway, The Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland and China’s First International Arts Festival. She has also appeared and performed on TV shows such as the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Marathon, Rosie O’Donnell in NY, Una Vez Mais in Chile, Les Plus du Monde in France and Variete in Italy. Other companies she has instructed in USA are the Open Door Studios and Charlotte Ballet, former North Carolina Dance Theater.

Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, is the only training program owned, operated or endorsed by The Joffrey Ballet. The Joffrey Ballet is not affiliated with any other dance training or school program, including the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. The Joffrey Academy, located in the Exelon Education Center at Joffrey Tower in Chicago, Illinois is the only school that follows the organizational mission, training syllabi, and artistic vision of The Joffrey Ballet.
