Born and raised in the southside of Chicago, IL, Demetrius began dancing at age 15 with a street hip-hop dance group; he later became involved with several After School Matters programs for the the performing arts, where he met his mentor, Pierre Lockett. He started his formal training at Northern Illinois University, where he graduated with a BFA in Dance Performance and minors in Black and LGBT Studies. Demetrius joined DanceWorks Chicago in 2011, performing numerous works by choreographers like Harrison McEldowney, Christian Spuck, and Twyla Tharp. As a guest artist, he has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company, Owen/Cox Dance Group, Deeply Rooted's Emerging Choreographers Showcase, Chicago Repertory Ballet, the Civic Ballet of Chicago, Pursuit Productions, and Danzloop Chicago. Demetrius was previously a scholarship student at Lou Conte Dance Studios under the direction of Claire Bataille and has attended summer intensives with Joffrey Ballet and Deeply Rooted.
